Nikolaos Paterakis

Education: University of Athens Law School (LL.B. summa cum laude, 1997), Eberhard-Karls University of Tübingen Germany (LL.M. summa cum laude, 1999), University of Athens Law School (LL.M. summa cum laude, 2001, PhD-Candidate), Harvard University (P.O.N. 2006). Admitted to the Athens Bar in 1999. Member: Athens Bar Association, Greek Association of Criminal Law, Hellenic Criminal Bar Association. Languages: Greek, German, English, French. Practice areas: Criminal Law – White Collar Crime – Extradition.

Nicholas has a rich academic background in criminal law which he has successfully applied to an extensive litigation practice in matters of financial crime (fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, money laundering, tax evasion, contraband) and international criminal law. Moreover he has substantial experience is cassation procedures before the Supreme Court. Nicholas’ experience includes:

– For over ten years he has served as a member of the editorial board of the legal journal “Poiniki Dikaiosyni” (Criminal Justice), having published numerous articles on critical manners that occupied Greek case law.

– In conjunction with the Professor of Criminology, Mr. Nestor Kourakis, he has published the work “The offense of fraud ” (2000), which received favorable reviews from the legal world and the publication of two other works he has authored, “Evidentiary Prohibitions in Criminal Trials” and “Attempt Perpetrated with Complicity and Complicity in attempt” is imminent.

– He has served as a speaker in a number of conferences in Greece and Germany on matters concerning penal law and criminal procedure.

– He has drafted many advisory opinions for foreign and local individuals and legal entities.

– He has successfully acts as defense counsel to Chairmen and Board members of public organizations and legal entities of public law in cases involving breach of fiduciary duty, fraud and embezzlement perpetrated against the State.

– In conjunction with Mr. Lykourezos, he has successfully acted as defense counsel for executives of a major aeronautics corporation charged with respect to the demise of the prime minister’s aircraft.

– In conjunction with Mr. Lykourezos, he has successfully acted as defense counsel in a variety of high profile cases involving multinational clients.
